An array of restaurants offer simple Colombian classics, fresh seafood, burgers, and more. You’ll also find a smoothie and fruit shop, and small tiendas for basic items.
What else is there to do in Cabo de la Vela?
We are surrounded by stunning natural and cultural sites. Take a short hike up Pilón de Azúcar for panoramic views and a sacred Wayuu site, visit the lighthouse for sunset, or explore the orange sand cliffs and coastal dune in our magical landscape.

What are the conditions like in Cabo de la Vela?
Cabo is one of the most wind-reliable spots in South America, averaging 25 knots of consistent wind year-round (except October, which is our rainy season).
The water is shallow and flat, which creates a safe, stress-free environment for beginners and ideal conditions for advanced riders.
What types of lessons do you offer?
We offer kiteboarding and wing foiling lessons for all levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
Do I need to bring my own gear?
Nope! We have a full range of gear including brand new CORE kites, boards, and wingfoil gear available for rent.
What languages do the instructors speak?
Our instructors speak Spanish, English and German upon request.
Is there a rescue service?
Yes! We have a rescue boat on standby at all times, and staff available on the beach to assist with launching and landing.

How do I get to Cabo de la Vela?
See our full section for more details. Most visitors fly or bus into Riohacha, then take a transport (roughly 3–4 hours) through the desert to reach Cabo. It’s a journey—but all part of the adventure!
Is it safe to travel here?
Yes! Cabo de la Vela is a peaceful area full of likeminded travelers. As with any remote destination, it’s important to travel responsibly and respect local customs, but visitors always find Cabo welcoming and safe.

What kind of accommodation do you offer?
Our eco-lodge offers comfortable options right on the beach. Wake up with the sunrise, fall asleep to the sound of the wind, and enjoy fresh meals from our restaurant.
Do you have electricity and WiFi?
We run on solar power and have Starlink WiFi. At times, the electricity is limited, but travelers appreciate the occasional detox.
What’s the food like?
We have a restaurant at Tawi offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. We also have a simple kitchen for guests with basic materials provided.
Can non-kiters stay at Tawi?
Absolutely. Whether or not you’re here to kite, Cabo is a peaceful destination to relax, explore, and experience local culture. Our beach, views, and sunsets are reason enough to visit.

The Wayuu are the Indigenous people of La Guajira, with a rich and resilient culture, deep connection to the land, strong sense of family, and vibrant artisanal traditions. Their values shape the rhythm of daily life in Cabo.
What is Tawi’s relationship with the Wayuu community?
Tawi (and all businesses in Cabo) is proudly Wayuu owned and operated. Our instructors and staff are from this region, with generations of knowledge about the wind, the sea, and the land.
