Cabo de la Vela is a magical desert beach town in La Guajira, the northernmost region of Colombia. Getting here takes a little extra effort—but the reward is an unforgettable experience.
Here’s how to get to us:
Step 1: Travel to Riohacha
Your first destination is Riohacha, the capital of La Guajira. You can reach Riohacha by:
- Flying:
Riohacha (RCH) has daily flights from Bogotá, Medellín, and other major Colombian cities. - Bus:
Long-distance buses from Santa Marta, Barranquilla, or Cartagena arrive at Riohacha’s main bus terminal.
Step 2: Riohacha to Uribia (1.5 hours)
From Riohacha, the next stop is Uribia, considered the gateway to the Guajira desert.
- Shared cars or vans (30.000 COP per person):
Ask a Riohacha taxi driver to take you to “donde salen los carros a Uribia” (where the cars leave to Uribia). These shared vehicles leave frequently throughout the day. - Private transport:
Taxis or private drivers can also take you straight to Uribia.
Step 3: Uribia to Cabo de la Vela (1.5 – 2 hours)
Once in Uribia, switch to desert transport. The last stretch crosses unpaved desert roads.
- Shared 4-wheel drive cars (50.000 COP per person):
These leave throughout the day from the 4-way intersection in Uribia. You will wait to depart until there are enough people to fill the car. Let the driver know you’re going to Tawi in Cabo de la Vela. - Private car/driver:
If you prefer a private ride, we can help arrange a private 4×4 pickup directly from Uribia or even Riohacha. Contact us in advance to organize.
We can’t wait to see you in the desert!
Note: These prices may vary, and there are additional rates for oversized luggage.
